How / where are guild gatherers (specialists) recruited?  The description says "one gatherer per level" of the guild house, but not how.

On a desperate "click everything" search for the guild gatherers I found that I now can send caravans or traders to a square, more precisely I can send 0 of 0 available traders, because I haven't researched or built a trade office in this town.

You train specialized gatherers in your marketplace. Or by clicking the "train trade units" off of the Trade Overview sub menu.

Say you found a rare mineral on the map. Well to get that rare mineral you will first need to do the 4 hour Guild research to unlock the mineral guild research. The 8 hour minerals guild research allows you to build the mining camps. To build the gathers for collecting rare minerals you will need the 1 day research of geology. This will unlock the rare mineral gathers that you can build in market place.

Cottors can mine minerals. Minerals are basic and cottors can harvest minerals, skins or herbs. For the rare minerals, rare herbs or animal parts you will need the special research that is under Guild Research.

Cottors for basic only. Special Harvesters for special only.

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so you will not be dependent on anybody.

Just to double check - the Advanced guys don't pick up basic stuff as well ?  So you would still need a Cotter about if you wanted to collect basic Minerals, Herbs or Skins ?

Would just like to have this confirmed please.

This is correct, cotters can harvest 100 units of the more generic items per unit, however the advanced units only harvest 1 specialist item per unit.

Shouldn't the build time be ~55m?

What am I missing here?

Thanks.  If you are looking for the guy who researched to get twice the number of specialists before getting the first, I'm on it: 2*levels*0 = 0 dwarven herbalists ready to collect cacti and similar rarities soon™ LOL

Update, thanks also to Quackers, the new trade research tree qualifies as Elgea mystery until everybody got it.
