Topic: What year is it? Posted: 01 Sep 2011 at 23:03 |
The latest year I have found mentioned in the faction info is 1019, as in "
In 1019, His Majesty appointed his brother the Lord Grendam to watch over The Western Realms on his behalf " I was wondering how recent this is, and what year it is in Illy time. Any theories/debating points are welcome, but I'd love to have the GMs answer this one, if possible.

IMO, it's great to have the year, even if its a RL year that has to go by in game time. At least people understand that this realm belongs to certain time, and that time is displayed.

Actually, this would be a good feature to have. Just add the year next in the season indicator (Autum, year XXXX).
And what are the years counted from? What happened in year 0?

Interesting question, Jajusha, I took this information from the faction description for the Order of Allembine:
The calendar is dated from our foundation, as blessed Allembine founded the first House in the year that we now call year one, and our historians have been chroniclers of the years since.
I will continue my historical research and report my findings.

That's a very good catch Rill.
Also note that:
"
These three duties have preserved the Order for ten centuries, and will preserve the Order for centuries to come."
So, that strongly suggests it is indeed somewhere between 1000 and 1099

It is later than we think! Information suggests than King Sigurd has been ruling for at least 200 years. However, in the Faction description of the Council of Illyria, it states that King Sigurd began his rule in 1012 at the age of 15.
Therefore the earliest possible date is 1212.

There is reference in one of the faction descriptions of an order King Sigurd gave 200 years ago. GM Stormcrow said in chat that his long rule could be explained by the fact that he used to be an elf, before he became a man.
