I think players would have run tournaments already, if the last few pieces were in place. Specifically, the ability to suspend NAP/confed on a square, the ability to track occupants continuously and completely (vs just voluntary API submission), and the built-in ability to present real time competitive rankings during the tournament. |

This is a great idea, but to be honest I would not be interested in wasting my troops and time with player run tournaments. The main interest in tournaments was being able to see the progess, kills, and daily ranking on the tournament page. The prizes are also an issue. Items like the soul forged blades, bone dragons, ancient warriors, and lately the medals were what made tournaments fun. The developers have basically abandoned this game now and such is the way of things.
Makiing those squares available to everyone will enable small scale player run events which is a good thing. |

Everything needed for this must already exist and it would be great if the devs put up the prizes. Go koda! Come on devs!

nCrow is running tests to determine whether the squares from the elemental tournament still ignore all confed/NAP/alliance and other diplomacy.
In my opinion these squares are not as fun to use for tournaments because they can only be occupied by one individual (and possibly even one town) at a time. This decreases (but does not eliminate) the potential for cooperative play that is part of what makes tournaments fun. I suppose this could also have the advantage of making it more possible for smaller players to compete, since the most that could sit on a tournament is armies from one city.
Still, I welcome any tournament, player-run or otherwise.

The last time we checked the elemental squares, they were just ordinary squares.
