Topic: The Fracturing of Illy Posted: 03 Dec 2011 at 17:52 |
|
In the last few weeks Illy has seen H? put out a 10 square rule in regards to settling cities near their own cities, as well as a flareup between RES and WE over sov squares. Additionally we have seen the creation of a nation/mutual defense state in Mal Motsha between the BSH and the Colony. Finally we have the Mutual defense between nCrow and Crom. Each by itself is nothing to write home about, alliances are made pacts are formed and broken, its the way of the game; but it seems like with the new buildings that came out sov squares is becoming more of an issue and you have the start of actual nation building. That is the first time in my short memory it has happened, the question I put forth is, is this the start of a trend, or a short-term abbreviation that will falter in the long run, and what people feel is the long term consequences of such action.

There is no doubt that the attempt by various alliances to formalise a 10 square rule has had an effect on some sections of the community. I don't agree that the situation has become fractious yet. Sovereignty is an important step to towards power and expansion for individual players and alliances alike.
Now is the time for alliances to test their management skills. Do they have the necessary grasp of pragmatism and maturity to prevent this development escalating into a turf war? We shall see.

Well currently the issue isn't a problem, it will rise though if the bigger alliances stake a territorial claim and try to force others out, or there becomes an issue of competing claims in one area and forcing other alliances to get involved

Bravo to H for the strategic move. If one reads the official notice...it is Sensible really, and not intended to offend or impede any. As to Nation building...lets get some roads first. The Romans perfected roads...and then built an empire. Just sayin....
As to any other concerns, be at ease....
When the people are hard pressed, and in need of a Champion...a Champion will arise.

well the creation of roads in my view will speed up the creation of nation states, and that will in due time cause issues because of players will fight over key road building areas and fight for the key roads to speed up troop movements.

Hard to be that specfic really demdigs. It's all specualtion really.
We won't know anything until the devs have implemented something and we've had time to work out how it'll all tie-in.

A 5 square settling (not spawning) rule was always common courtesy
A 10 square settle (not spawning again) rule is not unreasonable with current buildings etc
A 20 square rule for settling or spawning within with no sovereignty claim there should be laughed off as ridiculous at the very least
People can't help where they spawn, but settling within a certain distance of another city should always be with a public health warning
