as a dwarf i trust my crossbows and my hallabards.
those are about the 2nd best bow and 2nd best spear unit in the game.
infantry is just not meant to defend.
whit defend i mean that my troops stay alive...

I think infanty is decent at defending forests or mountains, but not anywhere else.

The battlefield is a scene of constant chaos. The winner will be the one who controls that chaos, both his own and the enemies.

Answers on a postcard plz! Why did StJill win this battle? DEFENSIVE troops ATTACKING OFFENSIVE troops! WHY I NEVER!

For added effect listen to this while analyzing

This is a small skirmish as Amroth has had to employ Affirmative Action to assist in his fail.

Victorious battle against ZackHammer's forces at Square 712|-114 by StJill's forces from The Meganips Emporium

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Bowmen hate it - and even cavalry units have difficulty moving purposefully to attack forested terrain. This is, however, the natural provenance of the footsoldier who excels.

Suffering the same problems as attackers, defending cavalry and ranged units intensely dislike fighting in forested lands. Like the attackers, however, the extra cover and confined spaces is favourite amongst defending swordsmen.

This one is awesome!

Bowmen in trees by the legendary "The_Dude"

I can only assume then that Amroth went to the same school as The_Dude for military tactics.

More victories on a silver platter please!

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Heavily wooded terrain spells difficulty for ranged units and cavalry. Infantry units find they have a large advantage here.

Like the attackers, these thick forests do not provide much assistance for anyone except your footsoldiers, who take great pleasure in the extra cover afforded to them.

Jude nobody gives a damn about every single minor skirmish you win regardless of how dubious some of the tactics may or may not be!

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Cavalry comes into its own when able to strike hostile forces at will, and from unexpected directions - and nowhere is this more feasible than on open plains. Lightly armoured spear units, however, prefer terrain where there's some cover available.

Fighting defensively on open plains, cavalry draws strength from the ability to form and reform their lines of engagement depending on the direction of battle, and it is here where cavalry excels.
