 Topic: Special Map tiles

So whats with the special map tiles? i.e. the abandoned mine, ancient forest, etc. It appears that you cant settle on them since they have no resource value.
Are they just for looks or are they (going to be) used later in the game?

I saw the question asked before about the special map tiles, and the answer "caravans". So the only way to interact with these special map tiles (atm) is if a caravan actually crosses over it while doing something else?
Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, I didn't see it (and why can't I send my caravans out to grab the stuffs near me without being on a trade mission already?!).

You will be able to interact with these squares directly; also hold them with armies.
We are just finishing up and testing atm. So should be in game very soon.

On a related note: Will inactive players be "de-seeded"? Or are they going to become just another resource for the violent and unscrupulous?
