It's very unfortunate that Illy has devolved into the very game mentality that I tried to escape from that has been evidence in other games, Evony, being the prime example.
What has started as a conflict between two/three persons has escalated into a dominating Illy guild (oops, alliance) war.
Unfortunately this is soooo reminiscent of the schoolyard bully scenario...I don't like you so I'm going to beat you up but you're too big for me, so I'm going to get my friend to help me.
The mob mentality is showing through. Seems like some never outgrew the playground mentality even though most players are well into adulthood.
I can only hope that the only victims will be the active participants of this "war", however I would bet that there will be loads of new players that will be victimized, taken advantage of, or simply walk away in disgust simply because Illy will become just like all the other games. Maybe the war focused players would be better off playing over in Global Domination.

For some of us that have been here for a bit, what is happening now isn't too much of a surprise. Illy has been on the verge of boiling for awhile now, I at least could sense it. All it took was a couple grains of salt and things would really start going. Major conflict was inevitable here, however I think that the game (and more importantly the overall community) will work itself out and you will see the true colors of Illy, those that show that Illy is not a playground full of bullies and newbs. But a sophisticated game of politics and diplomacy.
This war will boil on for a little while at least, but things will calm back down in time and peace will reign, as it has.
Note: (I'm not saying that I knew who would be fighting who, just saying that the overall tension in Illy was there and a major conflict was inevitable).

I am not familiar with the phrase "moonlight", what do you mean? |
Took me a little bit to figure this out, too bad I can't make a insult stating you as a propagandist for a terrorist organization, im above that you see.

I go with tallica on this one. War happens, in the board room, amongst staff in a big company, in Illy. The rest of the world may get concerned, even get caught in the crossfire; eventually it blows over, and life carries on as before.
No doubt if we had a way to track trade wars and magic we'd see similar fun and games there.

TD While we are certainly outnumbered, I still find it hard to believe this is the consensus of the whole community. Just the small percentage of the community that frequents GC. |
How many people have to join the war before you are willing to admit that you possibly misjudged the community? At what point do you say "Hmmm ... maybe we were wrong about this one ... maybe people really DON'T want to play this way. Maybe we should think of another way of playing that is still fun for us, but is consistent with the way others want to play as well."

And what way do Valar play Rill? Have you ever been targeted by them yourself? Or have you been in their ranks long enough to make a judgementcall? Everyone seems to have an opinion based on stories they weren't involved in themselves. What is the way Valar are playing in your opinion? The only aggresive act I hear about is the one on berberos, which was done by an EX-Valarmember. Offcourse I don't have all the info myself, but I have read no posts here describing any other unfair attacks by them. I had problems too with Valar, but there was nothing unfair about the way they handled me. They didn't siege me to the ground or kept sending attacks at me. I can imagine they are a little aggresive towards lorre as he is trying to make Valar look bad in GC, but as far as my knowledge reaches, nothing unfair has been done there.
Again, I'm not into all the info on this matter, but I'm sure other people (even ones involved in this silly war) who have given their opinion also have little idea where they are talking about

OK, so perhaps I have misunderstood the position of some or all members of Valar. Here is my question to Valar members: Are you willing to accept an Illyriad in which war is essentially optional? In which players who wish to live in peace will be left in peace? In which people can engage with the sandbox as they see fit?
It has not been my perception up to this point that such is the case. But perhaps I have been wrong. If so, I stand ready to apologize.
Some argue persuasively that this is not the central rationale for this war -- that it is a matter of power politics, personality conflicts or just people with too many armies. If Valar could clear the air on this point, however, it might persuade those who are on the fence that joining the war is not justified.
A number of members of Valar have made their personal contempt for me and the style of playing I and many others enjoy evident (although they have not singled me out in particular). I am not offended by this -- I don't need everyone to like me. However, I ask you to put any personal feelings aside, and for the good of your alliance and the game, please clarify your position with regard to the above point.
Specifically, is Valar willing to adopt a "live and let live" attitude toward those who wish to take a non-militaristic approach to Illy?
That is my simple question.
If the answer is as I hope, "yes," then it will go a long way toward sorting out the muddle of motivations behind this war.

Watch GM Stormcrow sign a confed with the spider, Cerberus and 3 other members of the dev team and go after the number 2 developer.
Can't wait to see the System messages in GC over that one.
