         OK just checked in my alt account and got this message:

            The Tower patrol passes by your units at 529|-2937

            Mechanical Patrol from the The Tower arrives at [529|-2937] in Calumnex and moves on without incident. 

(GM note 18AUG13): Factions will not currently attack players; and as at this moment, attacking factions occupying map squares will not damage your standings in any way. We will give sufficient notice on the forums and in the patchnotes when we intend to change this state of affairs

         So it looked like nothing had changed     However.........
         I also got this

            Two opposing forces clash against each other.The close quarter hand-to-hand combat required when fighting in a building is a blessing to the well trained spear or swordsman. Cavalry, however, find it extremely hard to fight here.
Spear and swordsmen find that building fighting is their place to shine. An intimate knowledge of the choke points in a building also somehwat benefits defending bowmen despite their limited arcs of fire. Cavalry detest fighting in and around buildings.
Your army has defeated the defenders and your occupation of this location has begun.

         Obviously cav don't do well on that terrain .....  but it still resulted in  
         DEAD MAGES !

         OK my mistake ... got all excited for a moment!

         I sent a 2nd army to a vacant spot nr The Tower and a faction army occupied it before I got there .... so it was ME who attacked them!

         *must read the report properly next time*
