Meet GM Rikoo!

It is with a somewhat heavy heart that I will be bidding Illyriad Games a farewell after this week. Unfortunately, I am going to be stepping down from the position as CM for Illy and AoA. I have sincerely loved working with the Illy community and everyone on the GM team for the past 2 and a half years. I have learned so much from everyone, dev team and players alike, and I want to thank all of you for everything you do. I've gained so much from the experience and am immeasurably grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work on Illy. (I know it sounds like puffery, but I really, really do mean it.) 

The good news, however, is that GM Rikoo is joining the team to fill in where I'm leaving off. He will be serving as the new community and PR manager for Illyriad Games both on Illy and AoA. Rikoo is going to be a great asset to the team as someone who knows Illy very well. 

So, starting today, look out for posts on the forums, in-game chat and social media coming from GM Rikoo. You are welcome to direct questions to him just as you would have done to me in the past. 

Friendly reminder that the best way to communicate with your CM is to use the proper channels for the proper functions. And please note that GM Rikoo will not be answering questions about technical support issues. Technical support communication needs to go directly into the petition queue or onto the technical support section of the forums exclusively.  This includes questions about the status of your tech support issues. 

Forum PM: Contact him using the forum PM feature with questions or to report code of conduct violations that occur on the forums.

In-game: Report code of conduct violations that happen in IGM and GC via an in-game petition. In-game mail can be used to say hello or for other questions if needed.

Email: If needed, you can contact Rikoo at the community@illyriad.co.uk email address. Questions about billing, game passwords or the status of your game account should go to the address accounts@illyriad.co.uk.

And with all those formalities aside, please welcome GM Rikoo to the team! There are so many exciting things coming for both games, and I look forward to seeing how they continue to grow and develop. Best wishes to everyone!

"We've got a very welcoming community: it's a very slow-paced game, Illyriad - it'll take you six months to get out of the "tutorial"!  It's quite slow. So we lose a lot of the kinda 'twitch' gamers, you know - people who want basically want to advance very rapidly and kill people.  If you come into the game and you want to form an army and you want to wipe out a newb, it's going to take you 6 months to a year to get to that point.  So it's a very slow-paced game.

And we've got an *awesome* community. I mean *genuinely awesome*. 

It's the only game I've played - and you can try it out for yourself, start an account (it's free) - go into Global Chat where everyone talks, and say "Hi I'm new here, and can anyone give me any advice?" and you will be sent free stuff by everyone.  They'll just start bombarding you until your warehouses overflow with free goods - because that's the kind of community we have. They're very welcoming, they're very nice.  

If you go in there and say "omgwtfbbqpwnage" then they're maybe not so welcoming.  And so it kinda moderates itself:  I mean, it's an ultimate PvP game - that's what's so bizarre about it. You can completely destroy someone, raze their cities and basically start them again as a new account - after 7 days of new player protection it's a free-for-all. And, because of that 'mutually assured destruction', I think the community's really nurturing. If someone does attack a newb for any reason, the whole community will gang up on the guy who did it and force him out of the game: they'll defend the newb.  

There's a very strong moral code going on in Illyriad, which is, y'know, like 'capturing lightning'.  I don't quite know how we did it...  Well... I think our community manager, Luna, has a lot to do with that."
