Illyriad is a very intriguing game, and it is no wonder that the number of Illy players have been increasing steadily. More players equals more action, more trade and more fun. Therefore, I feel that by expanding to other consumer markets, Illyriad would benefit from increased popularity, and therefore develop into a much bigger game. One of the best ways to do this would be by developing a mobile application for the Android/Apple app stores.

The mobile app markets have been proven to be excellent ways for game developers to increase publicity for their games. A good example of this would be the Age of Empire application on the Android market. While similar to Illyriad as a city builder game, it is much more simplistic and not nearly as fun as Illyriad. The market consists of 4 basic resources, and you can only have one city with limited buildings. In addition, the developers’ use of english is rather poor, resulting in broken sentences that players have trouble understanding. Yet, in spite of all these flaws, the game is very popular, having been installed between 5 – 10 million times. This is undeniable proof of the mobile app markets ability to increase game popularity.

A secondary reason for the development of an Illyriad application would be the smooth gameplay on mobile devices. Being a browser game that does not require tons of techincal horsepower, the game can be run on mobile devices such as tablets or smartphones. I myself use Illyriad occasionally on my mobile phone. However, one problem with this is the fact that there are numerous glitches or dysfunctional capabilites. This is largely due to the fact that mobile browsers not entirely compatible with Illyriad, therefore resulting in problems such as the inability to send mails, scroll through the hub markets or send resources. The development of a specialized app would fix all these problems easily, as well as allowing more efficient use of the game.

In conclusion, the development of an Illyriad app for the mobile app market would be very beneficial to all parties involved.

PS. In case this is too long winded, basically an Illyriad app would be good because it would make Illyriad a more popular and fun game.

AFAIK any sort of app for iOS would necessarily be based on the web engine used for Safari. If that is indeed the case, it won't fix anything to have a seperate app and would give the Devs more non-game stuff to do, which I for one don't want. It would sure be awesome if that was not the case. An app for iOS would be great but I'll settle for Apple fixing the Safari glitches (which is slooooowwwwwly happening.)

That is indeed true, thus the same problems occur even if you use different browsers. However, by creating a direct game engine, the Illyriad app would be able to bypass browser limitations.

@abstract: Use Chrome on iOS. It is much, much better for Illyriad. Safari has an HTML 5 caching problem that causes glitches like build queues not updating.

I have played Illy on both my Android phone and my Nexus 7. Playing on the phone is quite tedious but playing on the tablet is not so bad for the most part.

I am unable to zoom in to GC/AC when I'm on my tablet and I can only navigate the world map by clicking on the compass. Clicking and dragging with my finger causes me to move around the entire screen instead of just the map.

An app just for tablets makes a lot of sense to me since the screens would be big enough to display all the game's info and icons without making it appear convoluted.

Just from my experience, the best browser on an android for Illy seems to be Dolphin.  I use it on my Galaxy SII and I can chat albeit with some difficulty.

BetaMatt, your description matches my experience on the iPad. The latest iOS update, which I got last week has cleared up a couple of the more annoying issues, not being able to use the building queue to full effect and the Commander Skills leveling glitch. The map seems a bit smoother in its use as well, so that is a plus. All in all a couple of steps in the right direction.

Not being able to zoom the chat is not really an issue on a tablet. On a phone, there is a way to do it, but it is cumbersome.

Illyriad seems to work best on the ipad for me, I haven't really experienced problems with Safari. I can't see the chat on the nexus chrome browser and I can't send mail or resources on Android dolphin browser.

I'd be more than happy with an Android app that allowed me to do some of the city/trade management functions of the game. Mostly text based screens rather than full map functionality.

> Manage my cities research, build and resource production.
> Manage hub trading.
> Mail, GC, AC screens.

I realise it's perhaps not what everybody would want, but for 'mobile' use it would do perfectly for me.
