Topic: How to increase population? Posted: 27 Jan 2012 at 16:30 |
hi all,
i saw a lot of people increasing their pop very quickly compared to me. So my question is : how to do?
1- By building. What kind of buildings increase the most the pop?
2- Others ways to increase pop?
Thanks;)

If a player has the resources and prestige they can use the instant build option to quickly increase population.
I would say up to about 3-5K population you should be focusing mainly on your infrastructure, mainly low population buildings like resource output. If you are too focused on population and build those high population buildings you will actually slow your overall growth later on in the game when you have to return to upping your resource output anyway.

Artemisia - Ill have to second Anjire's post by saying, if you're really into the game and expecting to stay in the long term, you are best off by getting your resource plots as high as possible. It WILL make building infrastructure and newfounded cities much quicker.
Best of luck.

common ground and blacksmith are two useful but cheap buildings that boost pop. they take a lot of time to build too - ideal to go when you are low on resources.
consulate is another high hitter - expensive as well as very fast to build. Increases your warning window for diplo attacks too.
mage tower is both expensive and time consuming - and your best defense early on.
For the first town, warehouse is perhaps the best building - it adds 10 pop level in a matter of a few hours as long as you have the resources. Also warehouse levels becomes an indirect prerequisite for other buildings that you want to level up.
focusing on population is a good idea in my opinion - as long as you don't build all unwanted buildings just for the sake of population. Build the forge only if you plan to use it. At 450 pop you can have a second town which almost doubles your growth.

Infrastructure and resources are definitely the way to go, especially in the first couple weeks of the game. A couple buildings that add a good bit of population that are worth upgrading fairly early are the consulate and the mage tower. These are useful to provide some basic defense against thieves. A vault is a high population building, and while I don't recommend building up the vault excessively, building it to level 3 adds a bit of population.
Another high-population building that can be useful if you are not using prestige to instant-build is the Architects Office -- however, it is useless to build if you don't have the resources to support it, because it reduces building times and you will build more stuff. (Thereby also increasing population.)
