I reached out to the devs regarding the noob ring and new player retention, here is the initial support ticket.

Issues with the noob ring spawn area

13882 Gameplay Awaiting Player Response GM Stormcrow 15/02/2022 11:14:15
Myself and others have noticed over the years the noob ring expanding, while this is a good thing since it allows new players better spawn options than the condensed center of middle kingdom and its surrounding regions it has become an issue effecting new player retention as players find themselves randomly dropped into areas such as Mal Mosha where the alliance TCol has declared as their own.
I believe we all have the right to play the game in our own ways, that includes land claims but seeing new players quit after being sieged out of that area due in large part to the aggressive enforcement of the land claim policy brushing against the base right all players to play their own way is becoming a clear and present issue for the game as a whole.
I believe the best solution and something that is long overdue is giving registering players the option to chose which continent they want to spawn in and have the game randomly drop them anywhere suitable on that continent. At the stage the game is currently at (especially with both hope and cent available to capital markets) it no longer makes sense for players to spawn solely in the center of elgia. Of course if players chose to spawn in elgia or the broken lands and spawn in said land claims it will be up to the community and those claiming alliances to decide how to deal with it. But I believe this is a quality of life issue that should be dealt to improve the longevity of the game as a whole. Thanks for your time, GCB.

here is the response

Hi Gutz The Cavebender Couple of questions - absolutely no rush, and you may wish to consult with other players before answering. 1. How (at the front end, when a new player is creating an account) do we inform them about the advantages/disadvantages of choosing Elgea over BL and vice versa? What form of words would help them make a decision between the two options? 2. Where would the BL newb ring be centered? In elgea, it's the center of the map for that continent at 0/0. Its analog in BL would be 0/-2300 - but that may not be the 'right' ground-zero for the newb ring ; perhaps it should be centered elsewhere...? Just a couple of questions for consideration. No rush in replying! Kind regards GM Stormcrow

Before I open the floor to the community I first want to go more in-depth with what I think is a rather easy solution, while also to state and ask that this isn't a debate on the validity of landclaims as I stated in my initial petition. I ask that be taken to its own forum page or hashed out in GC.

I think applying the noob ring in the broken lands dead centre is the best option, now of course the issue of lack of land and open waters means new players would have to be dropped slightly differently. But assuming  the existing code can avoid water tiles, in effect will look and spread like the image below

Of course this is a rough outline of how the ring would start keeping in mind the true centre of the BL (0/-2300) making the pirate isles, newlands, almenly, siloeaur, and oarnamly priority spawn points around the centre will not only solve the water issue but give alliances in those regions a source of fresh recruits that aren't on an entirely different Continent that at best would take a week to move and at worse 3 weeks or more.

Moving onto how this would look on the front end I believe that has already been set up to include such a feature example below

While this will not solve the issue of people spawning in landclaims I believe that isn't quite the issue per say its more a symptom of a much broader issue which is populating the map in a fair and even way something I think the recent addition of Hope Ridge to capital market listings has played a positive role in.

Note I do not think the noob ring needs to be changed I think it just needs to be applied across the board with a recognition that a ring in the broken lands needs to act slightly differently than the original and that is okay, it is after all a different set of landmasses.

This is what I think the game needs to continue growth in its already matured state with that I open this up to the community for further discourse.

For a plan intended to, amongst other things, reduce newbs spawning in landclaims, this isn't the best. You've literally centred the BL ring on YARR!'s landclaim.

Here's my proposal; why have a ring at all? Spread the newbs across the entire map. Yes, they'll still hit LCs, but the probability of this will be reduced compared to right now, and the proposed BL ring.
This is the thread that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend. Some person started it, not knowing what it was, and we'll continue posting on it forever just because...
