Not impossible, but an alliance formed around a core of vets has a better outlook than an alliance formed with no vets. Gold cost is immaterial.

The Night Crusaders were formed June 2012.
4 months later we were confeds with Harmless and proud members of The Coalition. So I don't believe for a moment that new alliances are pointless.
Alot of older alliances in the game are loaded with inactive players. They are merely an illusion of strength. Never underestimate a small, nimble group of active players.

And, imo, there are few alliances in this game who have more combat capability than NC...
All within less than one year. Makes you think...

I have some experience in starting up new alliances, both independently (in the case of HUGS, which later decided to affiliate with Crows) and as a branch of a confederation (Crows Nest). It is helpful to have 2-3 established players to form a core of an alliance, but from that point on many alliances grow by attracting and growing new players. That has certainly been the case with Crows Nest, as our "newbs" of yesterday are our Rooks of today, serving as primary leaders.
I have also watched a number of alliances such as Roads, Of The Relic, Chosen and Honour get their start over the past couple of years. Some began with a core of new players, others were started by players who chose to leave existing alliances.
I think the bottom line is that just as there are many paths in Illy there are many ways to grow good alliances, and there will always be room for more folks with vision and energy to succeed.
I do think that one thing that distinguishes successful alliances is having a strong sense of what the alliance is -- the alliance's "niche" as it were. This doesn't have to be a specific goal such as the one Roads has, but a common purpose and a shared sense of what the alliance is about seems to distinguish those that have been successful.

I believe that is completely untrue. A player can get up to serious military strength in 3/4 of a year. If you and a group of new players got together and got organized, you could have a hard hitting alliance in less than a year. Also, plenty of vets move around alliances for a wide variety of reasons. Not saying it's easy, but if you are motivated, there is absolutely no reason why new alliances can't grow strong today. This is doubly true for when BL comes out and everyone is starting from scratch in that continent...
Just my two cents. |

qft. what would be pointless is to found an alliance for the sake of founding one.
