Recently, I've noticed that an industrious player (or a player with nothing but time to waste) can track a diplomatic mission sent to his city back to the city which it originated from by following the dove on the map. This defeats the purpose of stealthy diplomatic missions. If the mission succeeds and is undetected, then it should truly be undetected. This feature gives the defending player a god's eye view and ruins what is otherwise an important and useful game mechanic. The display of doves on the map should be modified or eliminated completely.

I thought it was everyone else that tracked the bird, as the bird is invisible to the hit player afterwards.

I think Vex is pointing that out as being the flaw.

It is the flaw, it ruins the concept of using a bird. You don't have eyes in the skies, so all the community -1 shouldn't be able to track the bird.  You should eliminate that and allow the players the old way, catching the diplomats, via your own

It should either be fixed so only the player whom was hit can track the diplomats, and no one else can, or as kushman said
[21:34]< kushman> i think it would be cool if we were able to send trackers after them within a certain time limit

Bring in a new unit for the job, trackers.

I don't see the problem, it is not unreasonable to think that "villagers" can spot the diplomats and then track them back.

If you commit a hostile act against another player then you cannot come crying to the forums when they give you a slap back. It's all part of the risk/reward decision.

There is already a defense mechanism against diplomatic units built into the game. Diplomats at home defend against incoming diplomatic attacks. Realistically, if trained scouts/spies/thieves are not able to spot hostile units, then there is no reason to believe that the common peasant can do so. There's a reason that you spend your hard-earned gold and horses on these units.

As for the incident that this complaint is arising from, I have no problems accepting the consequences of my actions, that's not what this is about. I am disappointed that my mission was revealed not because my opponent was better equipped, but because he utilized a game mechanic that adds nothing but "flash" to the world map.
