Have there always been alligators in Illy?  (Well, for as long as there have been creatures.) Today I saw some for the first time in Wolgast.

There have always been, I remember reading a post by kurdruk in his blog about how his city placement in the swamps allowed him to collect the most alligator parts in the second tourney.  

My guess is that with the recent NPC expansion they have begun to venture out of the swamps.

Not just wolgast only but in the swamp only.  Clearly they are now venturing out like many other creatures.  Today I found a pack of anacondas curled up in the desert.

They are listed in Fluffeh's (old)  Illy markup collection, noted in Luna's (newer)  Bestiary/Nature, Kurdruk's wisdom featured  alligators in May 2011, and Manannan's  NPC difficulty guide has them in the pool position (lexicographically), directly followed by your reply in September 2011.  Conclusion, you skipped a sleep shift again...  Wink
