As I understand it, there will be huge changes in Elgea, too, coming along with BL.
I remember reading something about a new story arc? So far most small changes in Story came with big changes in gaming, so I'm really waiting for all of that =)

And perhaps I'll give the new game a try, too... but in the description it's called a high paced game, so perhaps nothing for me...  Wink

This is from a post I made in "Lost GMs", another thread complaining about Illyiriad's supposed stagnation:

"I believe the idea that the player base is deteriorating is subjective in one sense. That is, that a relatively large number of players began in Illyriad in conjunction with advertising through Facebook and Google (perhaps elsewhere but I know those happened). For example, I stumbled across Illyriad when I first started using Chrome and tried it. I believe there has been little to no advertising as of late and therefore the player base, through what one could characterize as normal attrition is slowly dwindling. If I missed it and there has been advertising lately, this theory is bunk.

As Broken Lands and Factions roll out I would assume we will see a spike in new players. Certainly in BL but in Elgea too. It's August, so according to the original announcement we should have an influx of newbs in the next 4 or 5 months. Can't wait to see all the posts complaining about that."

I don't believe I've ever seen so much griping about something so trivial...and for Pete's sake, it's free!

This upcoming game casts considerable doubt on my participation in Broken Lands. I'm fond of space games, and there is only so much time in the day.

I don't think it's our place to dictate where the devs spend their time and money.  We enjoy their product, Illyriad, and many of us buy prestige.  But that does not give us the right to manage their business for them.  If it gets to a point where the game is no longer enjoyable, I can just quit.  The devs, on the otherhand, have their entire livelihoods at stake.

Personally, I plan on trying the new game.  I've enjoyed Illyriad, for the most part, and am definitely willing to give any other game they create a chance.

Some of us spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars supporting this project - not because it was just any browser game but because it was Illy and because James Niesewands vision of Illyriad was something worth supporting.
I don't blame those of you who do not realize this as it began a long time ago - possibly before you arrived in Illy, but for some of us this is a breach of understanding.

Sure I cant keep SC or TC working non stop on Illy, but I think being up front and honest about their intentions and work programme is the least we should be able to expect from them at this point. Communication(!)

while plans are plans and i don't feel that illyriad has any obligation to develop future content based on prestige spent, i would also like to hear how Age of Ascent and Broken Lands have affected the development arc laid out by GM Stormcrow here.  i fear after being browbeaten by their own plans so often, the devs have concluded that sharing the distant vision with the players was a mistake.  i can only echo Tordenkaffen that many of us are here atm because of that vision and would like very much to know how the devs feel about it now, several years into the project.

Businesses fail when they over-promise and under-deliver. Businesses prosper when they under-promise and over-deliver. I leave it to readers to draw their own conclusions.

I've seen lots of businesses who defy both of those axioms. It's pleasing to the ear, but not so clear cut in practice.

managing expectations is key.  by the time i read the post i linked above it was clear that six months was a wildly optimistic timeline for all the changes SC had outlined.  still, i think there is value to it.

"Remember that the Mirror shows many things, and not all have yet come to pass. Some never come to be, unless those that behold the visions turn aside from their path to prevent them. The Mirror is a dangerous guide of deeds..."
"Do you advise me to look?" asked Frodo.
"No", she said. "I do not counsel you one way or the other. I am not a counsellor. You may learn something, and whether what you see be fair or evil, that may be profitable, and yet it may not. Seeing is both good and perilous..."

I have spent significant $ on prestige; however, the last time was over 2 months ago.
Over-promise and under-deliver. exactly.
And do the devs really think I will spend more $ on a new game considering there lack of performance on this game?
No. Someone is giving the devs really poor advice.
