I've just about finished my first week in Illy and it looks like i'll be around for a while so I thought I'd say hi.  I'm loving the depth of this game and it's sucked me right in Big smile



But I have a question about bumping etiquette. I never send a caravan to a resource that's being harvested but sometimes because my van is so slow at this stage of the game that someone else beats me to it and I "send them packing" ...

what should I do?..the few i've messaged about it didn't seem to be bothered  but I know it annoys me when someone else bumps mine...esp. if i know they sent it after mine was already there...grrr

usually if I get bumped i'll resend one right away if i have one available just as a "What for?" but I really don't know what's acceptable here in Illy


so please clue me in...i don't know if i'm doing it right...or if i should go around and bump people off willy nilly and not care

Honestly it depends on the area.  Honestly I send vans where ever I need them and likewise don't throw a fit when I get bumped.  In some places its not unheard of to get threats of violence about bumping.  The best way to find out where you are is to bump a few people and see how they feel.

I wouldn't worry overmuch about bumping or being bumped.  Try to avoid it if you can.  Build up your resource fields and eventually harvesting will only be something you do when you want to clear a spot for an NPC to spawn, and you won't care if someone bumps you while you're doing it.  In the whole scope of things, bumping caravans is not a big deal -- unless people make it one.

that's what I thought ,Rill....but I didn't want to come out of protection to find a couple of armys on my door step cause I bumped a caravan or 2



because it's my first week, resources are what i need the most, so I've been having to search pretty far to find empty piles 'cause everyone around me seem to be all " Johnny on the spot" about covering them.  Big smile

I have always and will continue to bump vans without hesitation.  I also get bumped often and I just send a replacement van to bump back.

I do not kill vans.  I consider killing vans a Hostile Action.

I do not guard dolmens with armies, either.  I think this is aggressive at worst, lazy at best.

I appreciate all the help coming my way due to this thread...but my poor storehouse can't possibly hold what's being sent now....i never put anything into it as i'm rarely over 500 units of anything at this stage of the game

Ok, so i've got though my first week in pretty good shape due to the help of some nice people that sent resources to me with out me asking...that was nice...but i'd rather do this by myself...i get more satisfaction from my games that way...so thanks to all that helped...but i'm all set now. 


but I do have a new question

I've just started doing quests and the 2nd one i received was "where did the children go" and i have to scout the hermits house...so i send 1 scout.....he gets lost and killed....so i send 3 scouts...and they all get lost and killed...so i send 5 scouts...again lost and killed


this morning I sent 10 scouts and they still got lost and only 5 came back 

So how many do i need to send?...20?...50?.....a 100?

More like 16, check out the nice forum quest guide.  It's the worst quest I know (as dwarf), and after I got both "quest discoveries" I let those children go wherever the want to go.

You will always lose some scouts on that quest.  I just let the children be lost.  They'll come home for dinner when they're hungry enough.
