Ok Ok I figured it out (with a little help from my friends) and my trader is on the way to Centrum....they key is to type NOTHING in the boxes except the "1" for your trader and then click "send".
I was over-complicating the situation....maybe I'll change my name to Worrywort..lol
DW
PS. Seriously though, even if this page is explained elsewhere (military/diplo since cease fire is an option?) I think the page should also be explained in any "how to" dealing with trade AND be explained at the beginning since that is where the newbie will first encounter it....imho
Thanks to all who helped

AND while on the subject of traders.....
You and your alt each get one trader created without the use of VERY expensive wine. Do you each get only one for the game OR do each of you get one per city?
UPDATE: Found that the one wine free trader is account based ( and NOT city based) so any more than one is going to be expensive..
2nd UPDATE: Thanks Rill for those words of encouragement...I have heard that 1 million is not a great sum in this game, however, for me, it still is...lol

You can have multiple traders, but you need wine after first.

Only very active traders need more than one trader (or possibly two, one nearby and one in Centrum). Wine is not all that expensive for an established account.

How does one find the owner of an encampment? Do you send scouts, spies, or what? When there is an accidental conflict, it would be expedient to contact the owner of the troops to discuss the situation.
BUT does the very act of finding the owner through scouts, spies or whatever constitute an aggressive overture? Will the owner of the troops know he has been scouted, spied upon, or whatever?
I don't want to step on toes so I need to know the proper protocol..Thanks

You can scout an encampment to find its owner. The owner of the encamped troops will NOT receive a report that you have scouted it (whether your scouts succeed or fail). There is of course a possibility that the owner, if in close proximity to you and to the encampment, could observe your scouts traveling there on the map, but most people have better things to do than to scout the map for an encampment.
This is different than scouting a city, which many people will find to be rude or possibly even aggressive.
If someone has included scouts attached to the army, there is a higher chance that your scout mission will fail, however usually scouts are included in an army only when there is already a conflict (such as with a siege army). In general if someone just has an occupying force somewhere, they will not include scouts with it -- indeed some armies are placed as markers (such to as indicate a town is settling or exodusing) and in that case the owner of the army WANTS you to be able to scout the army and thus communicate about what is happening at that location.
Bottom line, give scouts a try. I recommend sending 5 scouts on this sort of mission, as a single scout seems to be more subject to random failure.

A military question:
Are the elite troop improvements really worth the time/effort expended to create them? I'm human and even doubling all the plus/minus for 60 cavalry basically gives me the power of 120 cavalry AND uses one commander. An opponent using his commander to command, say, 20 K troops negates any advantage of my measly 60/120 cavalry....Am I correct in this analysis or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for any input

I like to put my efforts in building bigger armies rather than deal with those silly ornaments

Elites are good for striking NPCs (hunting animals). There are threads in the Forums describing some players' personal choices for best equip schemes but as you might imagine, an army using equipment designed with animal bonuses can be quite useful.
Another use for elites is attaching a division of elites to a much larger army. I've seen some posts describing this strategy as well. It is an interesting use of elites. I may be wrong, but afaik there are really no strong arguments for elites over larger armies. If you can send an army of 10,000 against an army of 1,500, there's no amount of elite tweeking thats going to win the day for the smaller army. I will note, however that elites are quite good at drastically increasing the kill/death ratio. There are other uses for equipment, though. Equipping commanders, using relatively cheap equipment for large armies, etc. |
